Hawtins Stud is a large Hanoverian dressage stud. We primarily offer our horses for sale at four and five years of age when they are well established in their training and have successfully started their competitive careers. The main responsibility of this role is the care and management of all horses including the competition horses, mares, foals and youngstock. We do not stand any stallions. Our youngsters are all well-handled. Care of the competition horses includes clipping, tidying and bandaging. There is also the requirement to prepare foals and youngstock for shows including the BEF Futurity and Hanoverian shows and to present the horses at these events. The role includes assisting with the breeding activities, for example, working with the vet to scan and inseminate mares. The role would also involve working with the horses on the ground in the early education of the young horses, for example, introducing tack and lungeing, and helping the riders from the ground as part of the backing process. The person in this role needs to be someone capable of working as part of a team to ensure the smooth running of the stud on a day-to-day basis and, ideally, take responsibility for breeding activities and the youngstock to support the owner and manager.
