BHS Level 1, but also over 10 years experience aswell.
BHS Stage 1
General yard work, handling mares, foals, stallions. Maintenace, gardening, assisting vets and farriers. Equine first aid, training new staff members. Sitting up and foaling. Traveling to shows and coverings.
Over the past 10 years, I have worked in a wide variety of equine establishments, where I gained a vast amount of experience with many different breeds of horses. I have worked for Cullinghurst Stud, which is one of the top Arabian Studs in the country. I was quickly made up to Head Groom, and undertook all aspects of stud work including foaling, handling mares, foals, stallions and youngstock. And also prepping for shows and stud visits, and also training new members of staff and equine first aid. However, I feel most of my experience was gained at Dachel Stud near Newmarket, which was a Thoroughbred stud, and also a rest and recuperation facility. Again I was head groom, and was involved in all aspects of stud work, including covering, sitting up and foalings, field maintenace, tractor driving, assisting vets, sale prepping and handling mares, foals, youngstock and the teaser stallion. I can work as part of a team, or as sole charge.
I feel my greatest skills are using my initiative and getting on with my work thoroughly and efficiently, keeping a calm and level headed with horses, and picking up quickly any changes in behaviour with the horses I care for. Especially ill health.
