Job Description
The job involves all aspects of the racing industry, riding on the farm, beach and track, and water work. Accomodation is provided, the house is a ten minute drive from the farm, with great sea views right near the beach in victor harbor. Food and board would be worth at least three hundred dollars a week and the house and views are amazing.
Requirements
Looking for someone who's a hard worker and self motivated, must have a sense of humor and good english. There are normally four or five of us here, we work hard and fast, and have great fun away from work as well (must be good in a team situation). We ride and swim the horses at the beach, at the track, and on the farm. At present I have about 15 horses in work (including Alcopop, 2009 Melbourne Cup favourite), and quite a few two year olds and yearlings currently being broken in.
Required Skills
Riding; Driving license; Exercising.
Required Expertise
Racing Flat.
Accommodation
The house is in Victor Harbor right on the beach overlooking Granite island (great sea and island views), and is very spacious and relaxing (very nice modern house with large bedrooms). All food is provided, we also eat out at least once a week (more often in summer) at various local restaurants and pubs (all paid for). The fridge is always full!
Benefits
Benefits include the potential for more money depending on your level of experience/expertise. Cash bonuses when we have winners (approx 24% winners to runners) We travel interstate for racing (mainly Victoria). You'll see everything from foaling to winning races and everything involved in the industry, a great learning experince!! Our horses are nice types and generally have a nice nature, good to ride and handle.
The Facility
At present I have approximately 15 horses in work, more spelling, and a lot of youngsters yet to be broken. I also breed race horses, with just over 60 horses on the property. The farm is very close to the coast which enables us to do beach work and swim the horses. We visit the track twice a week for fast work with older horses, to educate young ones, for jump outs and trials, etc.
I also provide food and accomodation (very nice modern home) in Victor Harbor over looking the beach and Granite Island (great views).
