Job Description

For the applicant with riding qualifications, there is the opportunity to ride. Preference given to individuals experienced in backing/starting and dressage/jumper training. Horses to be exercised/trained. Riding season is generally from May to November as there is no indoor arena.

Duties include stable work, mucking out stalls; feeding/handling/grooming horses; handling of foals/weanlings. Horses spend a majority of their time outside, so stall duties are very reasonable. Skill with handling foals preferred, but I am willing to teach the motivated individual. Experienced jumper riders/dressage riders preferred. Must be self-starter.

This is a great opportunity for a student with limited English wishing to improve his/her English language skills or an experienced rider wanting the opportunity to ride high quality horses. We are expecting 3 foals in 2012, so there is the chance to gain experience in that field.

Opening in December 2011.

Requirements

Non-smoker. Ability to follow instructions; self-starter. Calm, quiet, but firm with horses. Experience with handling and starting youngsters a real plus. Must not be afraid to ask the horse to go forward for under saddle work.

Required Skills

Riding; Equine First-Aid; Handling Youngstock; Schooling; Lunging; Starting/Breaking.

Required Expertise

Dressage; Flatwork.

Accommodation

Live in main house. Room and board provided. Cannot be allergic to dogs, cats. Separate bathroom from main occupants. Please make me aware of any food allergies.

Benefits

Use of computer with high speed access to internet; treated as a member of the family; other benefits to be determined. There is a chance to earn spending money. Evenings are free. There is a nearby park for walks year round, and swimming in the summer.

The Facility

Small breeder of quality KWPN horses for dressage and jumping located just outside Halifax, Nova Scotia. Owner operated. Care of broodmares, young stock. No indoor arena, but large outdoor ring, 20 meter roundpen, and wooded trail.
