Job Description

In the yard we have around 30 horses, most of them are all day out on paddocks, only aprox. 4 of them come for the night to sleep.

Students work in a five and halve day basis, usually they arrange with the teacher the free days. Include dates
Students start at 09.00, and after the general cleaning of boxes and around the yard they start working with the teacher, lunging and riding horses. Sometimes they go out trekking with the horses. The amount of horses to be ridden and worked depends on your abilities, since some of the show-jumpers are not suitable for beginners.
Most of our horses including the Young ones are very well behave, the main reason is that most of them stay all they out and they are fed hay-lage or pasture ad – libitum.
Regarding the time tables, in summer if it gets hot we do longer breaks at lunch time and stop from 14.00 to 16.30. During the summer camps we have to attend a group of 16 kids from 08.30 to 11.30. after that we go back to the daily routine.
In winter we work earlier and try to finish by 19.00
Being in the country we have to be flexible due to the weather.

We get as well horses in from clients to be trained, most of them to be broken and some for show-jumping.

We organize 2 – 3 show – jumping shows in summer at the yard.

Students work along with the two teachers. One trains show-jumping, and the other deals with the beginners.

Living accommodation is a 3 bedroom flat fully equipped. It is 300 meters away from the yard. Train station is 5 min walk, but students get bicycles if they want to.

We like any one at the yard to be part of a team and with an open mind. The owner of the yard is very flexible, but he likes the yard and the flat to be tidy and horses treated properly. We do not put pressure on the horses and we like that our students treat all animals at the yard with respect. (we have one pet calf “Daisy”, some rabbits, one baby donkey and 2 cat

Requirements

Opportunitty for people that enjoy riding on daily basis. We are looking for reliable person to help around the yard with horses and yard work. Person must be patient with horses and young riders.Students help teachers with kids during the riding lessons. Students have 1 day and 1 morning free a week. Must help teachers with the horses and pupils and do general cleaning and mucking out We like students to keep yard and flat tidy at all times. Minimum riding ability neccesary, trot and gallop

Accommodation

We offer shared flat with other students. 3 bedroom flat with kitchen and large sitting room and dining area, fully equip. bathroom. washine machine 2 min. walk from shops.300 m away from the yard. Can have a bicycle to get around. Train and buses are all 5 min. walk. Beautifull beaches and river near by. Being a shared flat we do require the flat to be clean and tidy at all times. You must be considerate with other students and have an open mind to share a flat with your flat mates

The Facility

We run an small breeding yard and school in North West Spain. Based in rural area. 10 indoor boxes, 8 boxes for ponies and 2 outdoor boxes. Most of horses are out on pasture. We prepare horses and train them from basic to showjumpers. In the livery we have retired horses and showjumping horses that need a rest. Our aim is to keep horses in a natural enviroment sharing pasture with other horses. Most of our horses including the stallion are viceless and easy to work with. We have an small indoor arena and another outdoor and a Cross country gallop. Being in the country offers wide variaty of trecking round the yard. Working students help us to ride the horses and keep them fit and trained. We are a team and everyone helps around the yard, as we like horses and stables to be clean and tidy. Trainers and students must work together with an open mind towards horses. Having different nationalities helps broaden everyones mind and culture.English is a common language..
