Job Description

Liveried Helpers are responsible for all aspects of horse care and for cleaning and maintaining harness and liveries. Equestrian duties include exercising and training young horses and riding/driving on State and ceremonial occasions.

Requirements

It is essential that the post-holder:

• be proficient in all aspects of stable management
• be a capable and confident rider
• be physically fit
• possess good oral communication skills
• be able to work effectively within a team
• possess a flexible and proactive attitude to work

It is desirable that the post-holder:

• has experience of driving horses
• has experience of postillion driving
• has a recognised equine qualification (e.g. RHS)

Required Skills

Riding; Equine First-Aid; Handling Youngstock; Schooling; Lunging; Bandaging; Plaiting; Clipping; Trim/Pull; Sole Charge; Exercising; Starting/Breaking.

Required Expertise

Driving; Livery; Sole Charge.

Accommodation

There is also an option to live in accommodation provided at the Royal Mews for which there is a salary adjustment. This includes on-site single accommodation, all utilities and council tax and all meals. Married accomodation may also be available.

The Facility

The Royal Mews provides all carriages and cars for State, official and unofficial occasions. In addition to its ceremonial output, the Royal Mews is also responsible for caring for and training Her Majesty’s carriage horses and maintaining the Royal Carriage Collection.
