Job Description

We are looking for a new mature member to join our professional and friendly team providing equine therapy.

*** Our yard Is dedicated to helping young adults with neurological, emotional and behavioural problems.

*** The role will primarily be to exercise, school and train a variety of horses and ponies, including:

* long reining,

* teaching circus tricks and to

* double ride in a large western saddle with a child in front of you at walk, trot and canter.

You will be a CONFIDENT rider who must be COMPETENT DRESSAGE rider.

Knowledge of trick training is desirable, but the right candidate will be given training, however you must have an interest in doing this type of work.

Although riding and schooling the horses is part of the job, you will be required to lead therapy sessions and take responsibility for running the yard when necessary.

A genuine interest in the therapy work is therefore essential; experience with children, particularly those on the autistic spectrum, or with challenging behavioural issues is desirable. Training will be given as necessary, but the right candidate must be a forthright character with a cheerful disposition and the ability to remain calm and deal with difficult situations confidently. You must be a good communicator, able to think outside the box, be adaptable and flexible and willing to join in just about anything with enthusiasm.

No accommodation is available and the yard is in a rural area so you will need your own transport.

*** It will be a requirement to work Saturdays regularly with occasional Sunday cover. Person is required for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons and all day Saturday.

Requirements

*** Competent classical dressage, *including all aspects of lateral work*

*** Experience of working with children.

*** Must be a creative thinker.

*** Must be 10 stone or under to be considered for this position.

The Facility

We are a specialised yard working with the Horse Boy method assisting Autistic and special needs children to go forward in life. We do sensory work, double back riding, stable management, painting horses, circus tricks and so much more. We have a large school 30 x 60 m we have a round pen, play area for children and 18 stables.
