Job Description
Looking for horse savvy person to help care for horses, feeding, haying, mucking stalls (we only have 6 stalls), pasture and manure management, fence maintenance and general repairs. We need someone handy that can fix things when they break and work on other projects. Works in collaboration with the Barn Manager/Trainer. We need a motivated, organized self starter who is a team player and understands that farm work is physically demanding and must be done regardless of heat/cold/rain. You must be able to lift 80 lb objects such as bales of hay and 50 lb feed bags without trouble. Prefer someone who already knows how to use farm equipment like tractors and attachments.
This is a 6 day a week job. This is a breeding farm and there is no riding involved in this position. All young horses and stallions are trained and competed only by professionals.
We've learned that job seekers who use the "lazy" automatic email option aren't serious about finding a job and just waste our time. If you are sincerely interested in this position please take the time to send a personalized email message showing that you have some genuine interest and initiative.
Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you!
Accommodation
Sorry, no onsite accommodations available for this position at this time.
Benefits
TBD. Sorry, we are maxed out on space so if you are wanting to bring your horse with you it will be necessary to find a boarding situation offsite.
The Facility
Private and modest farm engaged in breeding, foaling, showing and sales of Trakehners and Appaloosa Sport Horses for dressage, eventing, show jumping. We are located in Shelby County which is probably the most English discipline populated county in the Birmingham area. We do not board outside horses or offer lessons to the public. We do have a barn with 4 stalls and a foaling shedrow with 2 stalls which is close to the house. Most horses here are on 24 hour turnout, however, we do stall for injured/sick horses, introducing young horses to stalls, rotating stallions for paddock turnout and for foaling out mares. We usually have about 3-4 foals a year but are increasing in our foal production as we have started standing our young Appaloosa Sport Horse stallion and offering him to the public. There is currently a 200'x120' grass arena, a sand roundpen and we are looking to put in a large covered roundpen. Youngstock are shown in USDF and USEA shows.
