Job Description

We now have available a position for 1 Working Student/Intern who is seriously interested in developing horsemanship skills. Students would be working under the direction of Owner Clinician John Saint Ryan 3 time National Champion in Doma Vaquera. John and his wife Joyce are well respected in the world of horsemanship, having over 20 years experience working as equine professionals. Applicants must be seriously interested in the horse and it would be helpful if they appreciate the work of Tom Dorrance and Nuno Oliveira. The ranch is situated 3 hours north of LA in the desert, we start work at approx. 6.30am and work through to lunch, after this we ride once more, then feed about 4pm.
Students will have the opportunity to learn a great deal about the balance between natural horsemanship and classical riding, also we pride ourselves on our holistic approach to hoof care and nutrition.
We prefer applicants to apply not by using the generic Yard & Groom form but by creating a short application showing their true interest.
On our reply we will be sure to respond equally well and if we think you might be suitable we will then ask applicants to provide a short current video clip of their riding at walk, trot and canter.

Requirements

The job involves feeding/cleaning approx.35 horses alongside our current Intern. Which takes about 2 to 3 hours. After this we work with the horses. Some are green and need bringing on, some are ready for advanced work and some are needing a re-start. 6 days per week. Help with general maintenance if needed. Applicants should be able to ride comfortably at walk,trot and canter and not be afraid to get on young horses.Successful applicants must be self motivated, upbeat and dependable.

Accommodation

We provide a two bedroom furnished Guest house with all utilities paid except phone, shared with our current Intern. The Guest House is located next to the Main House. - no dogs/pets please.

Benefits

Accomodation provided. All utilities, gas, electric,water paid. Access to Internet service (satellite). Each Intern will also receive $100 per week.
Applicants will have the opportunity to learn more about balancing two schools of Horsemanship, Classical and Natural.
There is also an opportunity to learn more about hoof care, including barefoot trimming, using casting methods and shoeing with Epona shoes.
