Job Description

We are a modern camping experience running resident summer camps in Southern California. Staff is provided housing and meals during time of contract.
- 2-3 years experience in horseback riding or equivalent. Be aware of the instructor levels provided through agencies such as the Certified Horsemanship Association and the American Association of Horsemanship Safety.
- Current certification in first aid and CPR (or willing to obtain during staff training).
Documented training and experience in horseback riding.
- Assist in the implementation of staff training for horseback riding including rules of the trail, barn, and arena and safety equipment.
- assist and train other staff in their responsibilities when horseback riding.
- Ensure campers and staff follow safety procedures.
- Be knowledgeable about the horse ring and arena and trails available for horseback riding.
- Assist in the care and maintenance of the horses and related equipment.
- Maintain the horse equipment including all tack, stalls, etc.

Any person accepting a position as a Camp staff member is committing herself/himself to a position of great responsibility to the campers, their parents, fellow staff members, the YMCA and the general public. A camp staff position demands a professional approach at all times. Personal qualifications include flexibility, patience, leadership, self-confidence, self-motivation, sense of humor, self-control and empathy for children.
