Job Description

We are interested in an individual who has previous experience with foaling mares and caring for newborns, in order to assist our current personnel. We are a full-service operation and stand seven Stallions, foal, sales prep, and break and train Thoroughbreds. The breeding and foaling season is coming up and we expect to foal around 100 mares and hopefully breed many more than that, so we are looking for an individual who has experience in these areas. Responsibilities will include assisting in foaling, assisting in breeding and teasing, helping the vet with reproductive work, along with the daily responsibilities of feeding, medicating, helping the farrier, etc. Once the breeding and foaling season is over, we then begin sales prepping from around June through the end of September. And once the yearling sales are over in September, we then begin breaking and training youngsters from that point and usually have the bulk of the crop broke before breeding and foaling gets back into full swing. Therefore, after the duties come to an end pertaining to breeding and foaling, we look for this individual to help in other areas such as sales prepping and breaking.

Requirements

Experience with foaling, breeding, teasing, and halter breaking newborns. Previous experience with sales prepping yearlings and breaking babies would be quite beneficial, but not required, because there will be plenty of opportunity to gain experience in those areas on the job.

Required Skills

Handling Youngstock; Bandaging; Clipping; Starting/Breaking.

We provide a one bedroom studio apartment on the farm with no rent or utilities due.
