Job Description

If you love horses and love the outdoors than this is a job for you. We are very isolated with lots of activities for our guests as well as our staff. An average of 8hr days and 5 days a week leave you with plenty of time to do other things. (Work day normally ends between 4 and 6 pm.) You get to ride horses for work and then go fishing, swimming, hiking, canoeing, blueberry picking, etc on your off time. Animal sightings are also a common occurrence. We see lots of deer, moose, wolves, foxes, and bears. (Not normally on rides.)

June 1, 2012 to September 15?, 2012 (MUST be able to work until Labor Day) Please do not request information if you have to return to school before Sept 1.
We do not hire outside of the United States.
Daily care of 14 horses: Feeding, watering, grooming, barn maintenance and repair. Responsible for 1 - 8 guests during 1 - 6 hr long trail rides.
We do offer some meal rides as well. This is a resort so we tend to help out in other areas. Housekeeping, dish washing, outfitting, what ever needs to be done. Winter positions are available in other areas.

Requirements

A love of the outdoors and outdoor activities is needed.
Must be an excellent rider with good communication skills. Most riders have never been on a horse, so patience and teaching abilities are a plus. Must pass 75 lbs lift test. We unload all our own hay and have to take care of all ground work around the stables. Mowing, painting, fence/barn repair.
Not allowed to bring your own horse or pet. Families are not hired for housing reasons.

Accommodation

On property housing. Some dorms, with shared kitchens and private shower rooms. 2 apartment buildings with roommates. Bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, and bathroom. Rent is charged based on building ($130 -195/month). Since town is so far away you can order some groceries from the Lodge kitchen. The Lodge has 2 restaurants so you can come and eat at a discount if you don't want to cook that day. (New this year. We are installing a zip-line for canopy tours.)

Benefits

Use of resort facilities/equipment at discounted rates. Motor boats for fishing and use of hiking trails just to name a few. Most of the staff is well educated with the area and finding someone to go fishing, swimming, canoeing or hiking with is never a problem A staff lounge with weights, pool table, and phone. (No cell phone, internet, or TV! Too far north.) We live on a lake in the middle of nowhere, what more could you ask for. The nearest town is 45 miles (1hr) away.

The Facility

Resort in Northern Minnesota that offers a variety of activities for our guests. We are located on the Canadian border. (1 hr from the nearest town with no cell phone or TV.) There are 23 cabins, boats, canoes, bikes, and of course horseback riding. The stables have access to miles of riding trails.

The stables is part of the lodge with only 14 horses and guided horseback rides. We are a small operation with lots of other activities to participate in.
We only hire with in the United States. We do not help to obtain Visas. If you are from another crountry please do not inquire unless you already have or can get the proper paperwork to work in the US.
