Job Description

This job is an apprenticeship at a working Quater horse ranch in Virginia. This job is an educational opportunity for those who are serious about working in the horse industry.Training horses in both english and western disciplines, breeding, foaling,and imprinting ...also... general horse barn and farm managing and maintainance. The applicant must have previous experience working in a barn or have studied equine science in a Univeristy and/or has ridden and trained under experienced coaches and/or trainers. Educational and Recreational field trips provided.Assisting and traveling to shows as opportunites arrive.

We are currently looking for apprentices who have interests in beoming professinal handlers and all around trainers in the equine industry...working closely with the trainer here at Mountaintop Ranch

Requirements

motivated student in the area of all around horsemanship who is interested in and wants to learn different facets of running a horse business...which will include all around training skills both english and western, starting the young horse, working with clients,lessons, stallion/broodmare management,breeding, foaling, imprinting and sales. The applicant must be self motivated and willing to work a full schedule while at the ranch.

Accommodation

private "studio" log cabin apartment with kitchen, bath, living room and wrap around porch overlooking picturesque mountain range...shared laundry room or 2 bedroom log cabin to be shared with a fellow apprentice.all utilities and limitied use of student vehicle

Benefits

Hands on experience and skills taught by excellent trainers and teachers. Possibility of an earned $100 per week educational stipend. We work with all students according to their skill level and provide opportunity to have as many different types of riding and horse experiences as possible. Successful Students will earn an apprenticeship certificate and a horse industry work related detailed assessment that can be used for earning school credit or augmenting a resume.

The Facility

Training and breeding facility for the all-around pleasure horse. We train client's horses as well as our own. We stand a Quarter Horse Stallion and foal out around 7 mares each year. We are a family owned business in a beautiful location where there are alot of opportunity to practice and learn good horsemanship and training skills...riding both english and western. Equine Reproduction is also a very important part of our business and we have a facility for collecting stallions, AI breeding ,shipping semen, foaling out mares and imprinting foals. We have 2 apprentices each season to learn various training and horse handling skills and how to work in a commercial horse barn
