Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Owner of the Farm, care for the health and comfort of two senior horses.
HOURS OF WORK
Attend horses 7 days a week, time off may be scheduled with owner to accommodate mutual schedules, with at least one day’s notice.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Demonstrated intermediate or above riding ability in natural horsemanship style
Demonstrated reliability and good judgment in the care of humans and animals
Demonstrated conscientiousness in previous work
Demonstrated ability to work independently within job guidelines and instructions
Demonstrated ability to react to emergencies with deliberation
Demonstrated ability to timely and honestly communicate with owner, vet, et al
SKILLS AND EQUIPMENT REQUIRED
Communications Skills
Display an affinity with horses and dogs, and be able to ‘‘connect” with horses at an intuitive level
Follow a written set of instructions to assemble food, administer medications and carry out other written instructions
Understand spoken English
Speak English clearly
Use a cell phone for voice and text messaging
Legible writing skills
Able to clearly and timely communicate with owner and care professionals to discuss care of horses
Able to interact with vendors/suppliers to order and receive supplies
Consciously and timely compose and record clear and detailed entries in STABLE LOG
Physical Abilities and Skills:
Own and drive a vehicle
Be physically able to carry out exercise program for horses
Lift 50# bag of feed and empty bag into a bin; move hay
Hoist a horse blanket and position it correctly on a horse’s body
Put a halter on a horse without injury or insult to horse and lead horse by a halter
Exercise a horse on a longe line
Properly groom a horse
