Job Description

We have a unique opportunity for someone who wants to travel for 6-12 weeks between August and November. Our show stables allows us to provide room/board and riding for someone who wants to travel and ride/show horses. In exchange for the room, $25US food allowance and horse show expenses, we ask that the person assists us with various barn duties including daily riding. Typically our hunter (jumping) and dressage stables shows 3-4 weekends per month during show season and students often travel to shows to ride/show and coach others. We also have monthly hunter and dressage clinicians to come in and teach during non-show season months.

This could lead to a full time working student position for qualified person.

Our schedules are flexible, and we will also provide horses to exercise and weekly lesson opportunities with barn trainers and clinicians. Please note this would not be a full working student position.

Transportation to/from the farm would also not be provided, and the cost of flight/auto is responsibility of visitor. However, we will try to coordinate pick up from Minneapolis airport if possible. Many references available, including former working students, employees and customers.

Students are provided a private bedroom, shared kitchen/bathroom with 1 other, cable, wireless internet and swimming pool use (photos available).

Requirements

We prefer that the riders have several years experience riding english. We have both hunter and dressage horses on the farm. Many of our horses are sale horses, so it is important that you are comfortable in your riding skills. However, we also have an extensive string of schooling horses that can be used to further your riding skills during lessons provided by barn trainers and clinicians.

Required Skills

Riding; Lunging; Exercising.

Required Expertise

Dressage; Showing; Show Jumping; Flatwork.

Benefits

You will receive a weekly food allowance and a private bedroom with shared bathroom. Riding occurs daily, with extensive horse showing from May thru October. During non-showing months, we have monthly dressage and hunter clinicians visit the farm to teach. We also participate in many other non riding activities throughout the midwestern United States, including festivals and sight-seeing. Students/visitors are responsible for covering their airfare/transport costs.
