The BTRC are looking for a competent rider to assist in the retraining of retired Thoroughbreds to enable a timely transfer between racing and equestrian disciplines. Our Rider Groom team work alongside the Head of Retraining, and support in retraining the horses to ensure they are produced to an appropriate standard that allows them to enter the re-homing programme, as well as assisting with general yard duties. The majority of horses enter the Centre as part of BTRC's vulnerable horse programme and require riders with confidence, patience and the ability to ride difficult horses through challenging behaviour, under the supervision of the Head of Retraining and under the guidance of BTRC's Consultant Vet. The successful candidate must be hard working, reliable and be comfortable working as part of a team yet have good initiative and be able to take the lead when required. Due to the rural location of the Centre, access to own transport is desirable but not essential.
