Our Working Pupil programme is for people with some equestrian experience who want to progress into a career. We provide riding and theory training to BHS Coach in Complete Horsemanship (formerly BHS AI) from our qualified staff team and visiting instructors.

  • Working Pupil positions are a fixed-term contract, initially for 12 months with options to extend

Lee Valley Riding Centre in Leyton, East London, is a BHS accredited riding school, training centre and livery yard. Our riding school has 60 horses and ponies working at a variety of levels for riders from complete beginners to BHS Stage 3. An ability to develop a rapport and create a positive experience for customers is a must, as are great communication skills. Key requirements and duties: • Completing the training programme to become a BHS Coach in Complete Horsemanship or BHS Senior Groom • Attending a minimum of four hours of theory training per week, plus riding, in addition to your working hours • Assisting the team to provide riding lessons, including tacking up horses and assisting customers • Maintain animal welfare, including feeding, grooming, and checking animals for diseases and general wellbeing • Maintain the stable facilities, stable yard, building and equipment to the highest standard, including mucking out stables and cleaning tack • Working shifts including evening and weekend work

Personal skills and qualities • A friendly and professional manner when communicating with the public and colleagues • Able to work well within a team as well as individually • Able to take instruction • Passionate about horses and able to handle them competently • Physically fit and able to perform all yard duties • Able to ride a horse competently in walk, trot and canter

Experience and qualifications • Verifiable experience in a riding school • Experience of working on a large commercial yard

Requirements

Excellent level of English, spoken and written. Must have experience of working with horses.

Lee Valley Riding Centre in London is a BHS accredited riding school, livery yard and training centre. We are a 60-horse riding school offering group and private tuition to riders of all abilities, training for BHS Exams plus Pony Club and Riding for the Disabled; we also run a 30-horse livery yard with competition and leisure horses.
