Are you looking for a new opportunity to make a real difference to animals’ lives? Do you have a passion for working with horses and ponies? If so, we can’t wait to hear from you!
RSPCA Gonsal Farm Equine Centre are recruiting a Groom to join the RSPCA team on a casual basis. Nestled in 186 acres of beautiful Shropshire countryside, our Gonsal Farm Equine Centre opened its doors to the public in 2002. Since it opened we have rescued, cared for and homed thousands of equines.
What does a typical day look like at RSPCA Gonsal Farm Equine Centre? We work to prepare previously mistreated and neglected equines for adoption. The work can be challenging but immensely rewarding, following the journey of our rescued equines from intake all the way to rehoming. Previous rescue/rehab experience is not essential for this role - what’s most important is your confidence around a wide range of horses and ponies, and your passion for their welfare!
Typical tasks include: Health checking and assessing horses Lunging & long reining General yard duties whilst maintaining high standards Record keeping / completing horse welfare related paperwork Meeting potential adopters to find suitable forever homes for our rescued equines
You’ll have: In depth knowledge and experience of equine care and husbandry Confidence around a wide range of horses and ponies, including equines with behavioural problems Good literacy skills to complete equine welfare related paperwork Excellent team player skills and, above all else, a passion for making a difference to the lives of rescued ponies and horses!
The RSPCA has two Equine specialist centres covering England and Wales. All of the horses and ponies will have come into our care as welfare cases. Some of them will have needed a lot of rehabilitation work.
Leybourne Animal Centre is a 23 acre site used for the rehabilitation and rehoming of domestic animals. In addition to this we are also a temporary holding centre for wildlife casualties. All the animals here have been admitted as they have had a welfare need identified by our RSPCA Inspectors, Animal Rescue Officers and Animal Centre Staff.
At Gonsal Farm Equine Welfare and Rehabilitation Centre we can care for up to 50 horses and ponies at a time. We only take equines brought to us by our RSPCA inspectors so all the horses and ponies in our care have been victims of cruelty or neglect.
