in 15 days
We are a little family yard looking for someone to join us for the hunting season (Oct -March) to muck out and exercise our horses 5 days a week and walk our dogs and tidy the cottage for an hour and a half 3 days a week.
The arrangement would be 5 days a week (Wednesday and Sundays off) for 2 hours in the morning mucking out, feeding and exercising three horses with my grandfather, and an additional hour and a half on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays to come down to the little cottage and walk our 4 spaniel dogs and tidy the kitchen (basic housework like hovering, unloading and loading dishwasher and putting on some washing). This would be a 14.5 hour week @ £10/hour.
We are looking for someone who is, above all else, reliable. Will you need to be efficient in all general yard duties and a competent rider. The yard atmosphere is very calm with my grandfather hoping to only hunt one or two days a week. Our horses and easy, well mannered and well trained. They know their jobs and hack alone, in company and leading. They are excellent to be clipped, loaded and with the farrier. While these horses could be handled by a complete novice, one is a 17.2hh full Irish draught horse and the other a17hh ID cross, so you will need to be confident riding and handling them due to their size and fitness. Our third horse is a little 14.3hh section D who goes with the flow! Our general routine is 8am - 10am, feed, muck out and then hack the horses. There will be opportunities to take our horses on fun rides and potentially to the odd unafil showjumping competition.
On Monday, Tuesday and Thursday after you finish on the yard you will walk down to the adjoining cottage and walk our friendly 4 spaniels around the block and then give the kitchen and living room a general tidy. There will be a basic check list of what to do. Payment would be weekly and there may be opportunity for overtime. This is a low pressure job and we are looking for someone trustworthy and genuine.
