Job description:
Position Overview
The New York Equestrian Center is seeking an experienced, passionate, and business-minded Equine Barn Manager to lead day-to-day operations at our West Hempstead facility. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring deep equine knowledge, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage staff, vendors, and client relationships in a fast-paced, community-facing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Barn Operations Oversee all aspects of daily horse care: feeding, turnout, grooming, stall maintenance, and health monitoring Manage farrier and veterinary appointment scheduling; serve as primary point of contact for equine health professionals Administer medications and first aid; coordinate vaccination and de-worming programs Ensure barn, arenas, paddocks, and common areas are clean, safe, and client-ready at all times
Staff & Operations Management Hire, train, schedule, and supervise barn staff, grooms, and equine interns Manage staffing and scheduling to ensure full coverage seven days a week Oversee ring maintenance, equipment upkeep, and facility repairs in coordination with maintenance staff Manage feed, supply, and equipment purchasing; track and control operational expenses
Client & Program Support Oversee boarding contracts, lease agreements, and related client communications Coordinate horse trailering to shows, events, and the upstate facility Support lesson program logistics in partnership with the Head Instructor Manage purchasing, leasing, and selling of horses as directed Maintain safety protocols and compliance for staff, horses, and clients at all times
Business & Administrative Review and report on monthly and annual operational numbers to ownership Assist with event planning and management for horse shows and community events Ensure all horses are vaccinated and compliant for shows and competitions
Requirements
Qualifications Required
Minimum 5 years in equine barn management or equivalent Minimum 5 years horse handling and training experience Proven staff management and leadership ability Valid driver's license; ability to tow and trailer horses Ability to lift 50–60 lbs and work outdoors in all weather Strong communication skills with clients, vendors, and staff Preferred
CHA (Certified Horsemanship Association) certification Experience in a public-facing or community equestrian facility Bilingual English/Spanish (strong operational advantage on Long Island) Experience with therapeutic or adaptive riding programs Familiarity with horse show logistics and USEF compliance Budget management and basic financial reporting experience

Riding school as well as rehab facility and boarding facility with an indoor arena. We have 55 horses on the property and we have access to a network of trails which we provide trail rides to the public. We have riders and students here that do western pleasure, Hunter jumpers, show jumping and dressage.
