The Groom is responsible for carrying out daily tasks to ensure that horse care requirements are satisfied as well as to be available for emergency after hour care and night check. This individual must be enthusiastic, motivated and capable of all assigned tasks associated with the full care of hunter/jumper horses. The Groom must be conscientious about horsemanship, grooming and overall horse care. This individual must be proactive, truly enjoy taking care of horses and have a desire to excel at their job. The Groom must be positive, friendly and enjoy working in a team environment.
This is not a riding position.

Daily Care Feeding Hay is given twice during the day and once at night check Grain is given twice a day Water - daily cleaning and refilling of buckets Grooming Daily brushing and/or bathing as per horse care schedule Wrapping Clipping ~ ears, legs Cleaning bridles after every use Cleaning saddles once per week Laundry Daily Laundry including wraps, boots, saddle pads, towels Seasonal or when needed: blankets, sheets, and coolers

Turnout Prepare horses for turnout - blankets on/off; boots and/or wraps as per individual horse’s needs Bringing in after turnout - blankets on/off or change of blanket; brushing off any dirt - making sure the horse is clean for the night; picking out of feet - making sure the foot is clear of any rocks and that all shoes are on (if there is a missing shoe notify the Head Groom)

Horse Exercise Preparation Tacking up and untacking

Barn Maintenance Daily cleaning of stalls Picking out of stalls in the afternoon Sweeping, dusting, vacuuming and raking

Paddock Maintenance Daily/Weekly picking out manure from paddocks

First Aid Treatment of minor injuries or illness Monitoring horses for health and soundness - report any findings to the Head Groom Using massage tools, massage blankets, ice boots and other related therapeutic modalities as directed by Head Groom.
