Equine Work Experience
I have been riding for 17 years and helping and later working at a yard since I was 12. I have had two loan horses over the years and ridden a variety of horses when livery owners have asked me to assist them. My latest loan horse was diagnosed with osteoarthritis while I was loaning her and I worked with the vets and owner to seek treatment for her and worked through a rehab programme to keep her comfortable, even when riding was limited. I worked with a young cob to bring up her hacking skills, bringing her from a nervous horse needing company to being confident out on her own. I also worked with the same horse and a young girl to get the horse jumping confidently. I have assisted people at shows with grooming, preparation, training, and general support. I recently got my first horse, who with the help of a friend, we spent the summer backing. The skills I have learnt from this are invaluable.
Specialities
I spent this summer helping to tame two wild mares to a stage where a novice can handle them. I also have experience bringing young children out on hacks. I have worked as part of a team, lead a team and also been left in sole charge of a yard when the owners were away. I have experience with ground work such as lunging and long reining and experience rehabbing horses back from injuries and those with arthritis.
Type of Ride Work
I have ridden a variety of horses, from freshly backed to retiring horses. I enjoy schooling and am eager to improve my skills in that area - I had hoped to do this with my last loan horse but the arthritis prevented this. I have previously had cross-country lessons and jumping lessons but have not done either for a few years due to the horses I have been riding unable to jump for health reasons. I am most confident hacking out, whether it be on beaches, roads, or open spaces.
Competition Details
I have no competed but have helped and supported livery owners in show preparation, training and support on the day. I am more than happy to be involved in competitions.
