Duties of Current Occupation
I have worked at the riding school (for 3 years) so I have a lot of experience with misbehaving horses, whether it's biting or kicking. In addition, I am very competent at all yard jobs.
Equine Work Experience
What I enjoy most about working with horses is the feeling of companionship with a horse, getting know their individual personalities, and learning how to ride each individual horse properly. I find adapting to a new horse takes so much time and effort, but is so commensurately rewarding. For example, I ride a 15.2hh Cob called Seamus who is very big, extremely strong, heavy footed and quite young who is used for vaulting. However, he started show jumping and when I first rode him in flatwork he kept towing me into the centre of the arena, and my first time jumping him, he refused 3 times, nearly taking me through a wing. However, I started competing him and took him over his first fillers, round his first jump-off, and over his first course of 2ft3". He still has his quirks of strong refusals, squeals, bucks, broncs and bolts, but I now enjoy riding him including dealing with all the quirks, no longer being scared of such occurrences.
Specialities
The key factor that differentiates me from other applicants is that I have experience riding so many types of horses; school masters; newly broken; 12.1hh to 17.1hh; horses who love to misbehave; horses who love to show jump. Not only this but also my care and compassion drive my desire to pursue this role - I will always put the horse's welfare above all else.
Type of Ride Work
When I was 5 I started horse riding at my local riding school and over the past 14 years I have ridden approximately 70 different horses. I now compete in show jumping up to 85cm, and in dressage up to novice level. I have experienced pretty much everything on a horse, from bucks, broncs, and rears, to bolts, refusals and dead stops.
Competition Details
The riding school I attend holds competitions regularly, so I've been competing for 13 years, and have won over 270 rosettes. On a competition day you'll find me working a multitude of jobs, including; judging low level show jumping; organising competitors; calling dressage tests; coaching kids through jump-off courses; informing parents how competitions work and how they are ran.
