Duties of Current Occupation
Teaching 7-16 year olds how to ride from beginners up to jumpers, looking after 20 horses, grooming, tacking up, lunging, riding, teaching ground lessons, mucking out, working as part of a team
Equine Work Experience
When I was younger I used to help out at a riding school. I’m currently working at a summer camp in America and working in the barn all day everyday, dealing with all sizes and ages of horses. Teaching kids how to ride, how to groom, how to treat an injured horse, what signs to look out for. Although I haven’t worked on a competition yard before, I have completed at home so I am aware of the standard horses need to be groomed at, the reason for applying for this job is to gain experience and knowledge in the higher competition side and higher professional side.
Specialities
I currently have 3 horses (2 youngsters and my main riding horse) I’ve had horses my whole life used to all ages of horses and have handled shetlands up to 18hh draft horses. Riding wise I’ve mostly done unaff showjumping, dressage, an eventing camp, currently jumping 80-1m courses as that is my current horses comfort level. I’ve been to lots of competitions, groomed for my friends and myself although I’ve never groomed for top big competitions. I’ve ridden green horses up to experienced horses
Type of Ride Work
I have ridden newly backed horses up to experienced horses. My current horse I broke it in and have done all the basics myself, I can school a horse, I have jumped up to 1.10 although my comfort level at the moment is 80-100cm as that is what my horse is comfortable jumping. I have been to cross country before jumping 70-80cm, never evented before just doing eventing camps. I showjump unaffiliated 80cm currently as my horse needs to gain more experience before affiliating.
Competition Details
I have competed at unaffiliated showjumping competitions, groomed for my friends at low level competition. although I have no experience in working on a competition yard or as a professional groom this is something I am interested in learning on the job at doing, I am a quick learner and I have good time management skills.
