Duties of Current Occupation

Assisted with daily yard duties including mucking out, grooming, tacking up, feeding, exercising horses, turning out, and general care, both as a volunteer and while managing responsibilities for loan horses.

Equine Work Experience

From the age of six, I’ve been involved with horses—initially as a rider, and later taking on responsibilities such as mucking out, grooming, feeding, turning out and tacking up. During my teenage years, I helped out regularly on in a commercial horse school, helping with tacking up, general horse care, and tack cleaning. As a young adult I cared for loan horses, ensuring their daily needs were met independently by turning them out, providing them with food, doing ground work and riding the horses, as well as mocking out alongside other yard duties. I’m confident and comfortable around horses, and while I’ve been away from equine work for a short while, I’m enthusiastic about returning to this environment.

Additionally, I volunteered at a SEND school in South Africa where I supported and partially led the disability horse riding sessions.

Specialities

Outside of the equine world, I have developed strong leadership skills as a team captain and university group leader. In the yard, I have experience handling foals and supporting SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) riding sessions, demonstrating patience and adaptability.

Type of Ride Work

I have mainly focused on dressage, developing strong flatwork skills, but I have also gained solid experience in show jumping. I am confident working horses on the lunge and enjoy taking them out for hacks, helping to build their confidence and fitness. All while making sure the horses well being is the main priority.

Competition Details

I have assisted as a voluntary competition groom for friends on competition days. Through this, I gained a strong understanding of the duties required both before and during events. I am confident in preparing and turning horses out to a high standard, tacking up correctly, and staying organised and calm under pressure to best support the competitor.
