Equine Work Experience
I have volunteered at Bransby Horses and Rescue in 2018 and at Broad View riding stables in 2021. I have had my own horses since the age of 3 and have had our own yard with a variety of horses on. At Bransby, I worked on the walk lands farm yard which is where elderly horses commonly are, many being retired racehorses or police horses. At broad view stables I had to muck out both riding school and livery horses and tack up livery horses. I also have two qualifications with Oplex careers, the stable management course where I achieved a distinction and the equine behaviour and psychology where I achieved a higher distinction.
Specialities
Previously volunteered at two yards (one a horse rescue and the other a riding school). I can work within a team or individually, I can muck out stables quickly and I constantly sweep to ensure the yard is tidy and well presented. My family used to breed Shetland ponies so I have knowledge around foals. I used to own 7 horses and I regularly attended the Ivel Valley Pony club.
Type of Ride Work
I have ridden horses since the age of 4, in 2011 my father rescued a Shetland pony who used to do the Shetland grand nationals. Myself and my father retrained him to be a lead rein pony and I took him to many Shetland stud book society shows and pony club. In 2016, I had a 13.2hh, 4 year cob that needed lots of retraining as he would bolt or roll when he didn’t want to do work. In 2018, I purchased an ex racehorse that also needed retraining.
Competition Details
I have completed several times with the Shetland stud book society, often placing in the top 3.
