Equine Work Experience

Volunteer Stable Hand (at age 13 to 16)

I volunteered at a local stables for 3 years as I had a love for horses and wished to learn how to care for them and how to ride. I completed many different jobs within the role, including mucking out fields and stables, taking up and removing tack after lessons, making up hay-nets, feeds, and filling water buckets, turning out and bringing in from fields, rugging up and removing rugs, leading beginners in lessons in walk and trot, and leading on hacks, tidying and sweeping the yard so that it looked presentable at all times, and any jobs that were asked of me.

During that time I also completed my Duke of Edinburgh award, and for my physical section I learnt how to ride horses for three months. I learnt how to fully control a horse in walk and trot (rising and sitting) and I was learning to canter but never finished learning because my DofE ended. I am now hoping to pick these lessons back up and finish learning to ride in all paces.
