Qualifications

I graduated from the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) and completed a BSc (Hons) in Equine Management. During my time at CAFRE, I developed both my riding and handling skills, having handled youngstock, broodmares, racehorses in training and equitation horses. Additionally, whilst at my previous employment at a riding school, I achieved my full BHS Stage 1 and my BHS Stage 2 Care.

Equine Work Experience

I have over 2 years of experience working at a busy riding school in Surrey, with 40+ horses, where I was responsible for all daily tasks. These included mucking out, making feeds, grooming and tacking up horses, performing minor veterinary treatments such as wound management and medicating horses, leading ponies during lessons, poo-picking fields and assisting clients wherever necessary, as well as being tasked with mentoring any new staff or volunteers. I also spent several years volunteering at my local riding school as a teenager, taking on general yard chores and helping young riders during lessons. Additionally, I spent 4 years at an equine hospital and stud as a work experience student following an initial 6-week placement, where I assisted in scanning mares, general management of injured/ill horses, assisting vets with procedures and general upkeep of the yard. There, I developed my equine handling skills through dealing with foals, broodmares, teaser stallions and ill horses.

Specialities

I have experience handling youngstock, broodmares, Thoroughbreds in training and equitation horses. I have also handled horses with behavioural issues, such as those prone to biting, kicking, barging, or nervous horses. I have developed great people skills throughout my time working and volunteering, as I enjoy talking with customers and have years of experience working with children. I am capable of working well as part of a team and have experience in taking the lead in small yard teams.

Type of Ride Work

I have experience with riding a range of different horses, including some green and problem horses. I am a confident rider on the flat and had previously jumped up to around 75/80cm, however experienced a severe confidence knock due to a bad fall several years ago, so I have been working to build my confidence back up and hope to jump to this level again.
