Equine Work Experience

I have been involved with horses from the age of 5, when I had my first riding lesson and have not looked back. I have experience doing volunteer work at local riding schools helping to groom, tack up and untack, helping during lead rein lessons. In 2018, I worked as a weekend groom for a private owner and show jumper. In this role I worked with show jumpers, ex- racehorses and hacking horses. In this job I often had sole charge of the yard and my duties included mucking out, feeding, poo picking fields, grooming/ washing, tacking up for the riders and sometimes riding the hack horses for them.
I left for Aberystwyth University in September 2018 to complete the Equine Studies degree. Through this degree, I have had more hands on experience working with horses and learnt more skills including; plaiting, clipping & bandaging. I also assisted during the shows held at the university. When I left university I had a summer job at a busy riding school.

Specialities

I have some experience working with foals, youngsters and broodmares. As part of my previous job, I also have experience being in sole charge of a yard and as a result making decisions. I have good time management and I never leave a job half finished and when working I would often make a to do list and set myself time goals throughout the day to keep myself motivated. I also have experience working at a busy riding school.

Type of Ride Work

I have been riding since I was 5 years old. I am a capable rider but lack the confidence in myself initially. I have experience with jumping small fences and a course. My confidence definitely grows when my instructor or colleagues are patient with me. Over the years I have ridden an array of different horses, who all have different attitudes but I have never ridden a problem horse or a young horse. I have done ground work with green horses and horses who are starting their ridden career.

Competition Details

As part of my second year at University I had to help organise and assist at the competitions that the university equine centre held on the weekends. These competitions included affiliated British dressage and show jumping and unaffiliated Dressage and Show jumping.
