Duties of Current Occupation

General daily care and exercise of the horses. Monitor feed and forage. Coaching riden and stable management lessons. Preparing horses and turing them out for ceremonial parades infront of her majesty. Ceremonial kit care and parade preparation.

Equine Work Experience

I have been around horses all of my life. As well as my experience working with them in horseracing and in The Cavalry I have also trained and ridden my own point to pointer and am a keen hunter.

I was in the horseracing industry for ten years after going to The British Racing School in Newmarket when I left school. In this role I would complete daily yard tasks such as mucking out, turnout and medical care. I would also ride out on the gallops everyday with younger or older horses including jumping and using the starting stools. I have also been involved in backing and breaking young horses.

I am now a Regimental Riding Instructor in The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment in Knightsbridge, London. This involves me coaching riding and horse care with the Cavalry Blacks. I am very involved with preparing the horses to the high standard required to parade in front of Her Majesty. I also train and ride the younger horses on parades to prepare them for life in the cavalry.

Specialities

I muck out quickly and can keep a yard and tack room tidy with great care of tack. I have work with horses of all ages; unbroken to retired. I am confident in turing out a horse to a very high standard. I have experience in working as a team and sometimes leading that team. I enjoy teaching and coaching people to ride and in horsecare. I have held and important position and role in The Household Cavalry Musical Ride.

Type of Ride Work

I have ridden young, old, green and problem horses with the patience and compassion they need. I am a confident rider to school on the flat and over jumps. I take horses hunting and have ridden in point to points. I enjoy working with horses from the ground including lunging and long reining. I have started young horses and backed and broken thoroughbreds and Cavalry Blacks. Although a lot of my ridden work has been high paced I still enjoy a quiet hack.

Competition Details

I have competed as a child and teenager and local shows including showing and jumping. I have raced over 3 seasons of Point To Points. I have won the Household Cavalry, Lifeguard Squadron showjumping in 2 consecutive years, placed 2nd in the regimental jumping and placed 3rd in the regimental team chase.
