Once I left secondary school I then went to an equine college where I stayed there for three months before being offered an apprenticeship on a professional dressage yard/ stud. From this I passed with a Level 3 NVQ senior equine groom certificate.
General day to day jobs as well as riding competition horses
I’ve worked in a few professional yards, one being a dressage yard/ stud. Another one being a tattersalls thoroughbred consignment and the other a competition yard. The longest I’ve worked on a professional yard/ stud was for two years and the other jobs were less than a year.
I’m my past experiences I have worked with broodmares, foals, stallions and young stock. I’ve also got very good people skills and I work well in a team and independently. I can turn out to a good standard and I also can ride to a good level. I’ve ridden more dressage than jumping however I would be keen to learn more about both.
I’ve mostly ridden dressage horses and I’ve also had experience in the backing area however I was the ground's person for the first part and once the horses were riding away I then rode them. I have also had dealings with green horses and young horses but not very much.
I have competed myself at unaffiliated novice, however never really made it much further. I have ridden ex Grand Prix horses which have taught me how to ride the more advanced movements to then one day teach a young or inexperienced horse. I’ve had a go at being a competition groom before also.
