Qualifications
I obtained a first class BA Hons from Oxford University in Geography, graduating in 2020. During lockdown I completed BHS silver and gold certificates as an alternative to BHS Stage 1 in riding, lunging, and care.
Duties of Current Occupation
Regular sole charge at showjumping/livery yard, competition grooming, lunging/riding/hacking/flatwork, some work with youngsters/breakers, instructing.
Equine Work Experience
I worked part-time at a riding school/livery yard whilst I was at school, progressing to become a riding instructor. I continued to work part-time with horses whilst at university, at a competitive show jumping yard. Since graduating I have spent the past year (May 2020-present) working full time in the equestrian industry as a free lance instructor, groom and rider, alongside managing a small stud yard.
Specialities
Efficient and hard worker on the yard, fast learner and quick to use initiative. Many years of experience and regular sole charge on busy yards with fit competition horses, as well as experience handling, starting and riding young horses.
Type of Ride Work
I have ridden a wide range of horses on the flat from fit and established showjumpers to green/younger horses. I have experience starting horses; I backed and broken my own warmblood who is now competing at British Novice level. I have experience in lunging and long reining both youngsters and established horses. I recently started a problem horse and competed with this horse in unaffiliated show jumping. See www.instagram.com/emily_thwaites_equestrian for an honest representation of my riding.
Competition Details
I groom at a competition yard and have often groomed at international competitions e.g. Bolesworth, Hickstead etc. At uni (2017-20) I competed in SJ (90cm) and dressage on unknown horses. This year I have ridden problem horses at unaffiliated show jumping competitions and competed my own youngster both unaffiliated and affiliated SJ up to British Novice. I have ridden an experienced show jumper in a few classes, but overall my competition riding experience is something I would love to increase.
