Equine Work Experience

not looking to start until January I have been an equestrian for 13 years, having ridden everything from 13hh 5 year old Welshies to my current 17hh Sports Horse (out of Jumbo). I have done previous work experience at a riding school, for a week in 2019. In this time, I worked around all types of horses and ponies. I have also (unofficially) been to shows and groomed for a friend at several BE and dressage events as well as competing my own horse without a groom, thus doing every task myself to a high standard. I regularly train to a 1.20/1.30m level but lack of local opportunities has prevented me from competing at this height. However, I am confident I have the horse and skills to get there in the future. The lack of industry experience is only due to me being a full time student and now that I'm taking a gap year, I see it wise to spend it doing something I will enjoy! That being said, I am no stranger to mucking out, poo picking and filling a billion haynets.

Specialities

I work at a boarding kennels as part of a team as well as individually. I get on with my job with no fuss and I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. I work at a high standard, with no details missed whilst also being quick and efficient with the task at hand. Although, I can spend a long time taking care over a task, if required. I'm experienced with horses as a whole, however, I currently have no experience with anything stud related due to full time studies, but I can learn very quickly!

Type of Ride Work

I am experienced with problem horses, in all disciplines (including western) but mainly showjumping and a bit of eventing. I worked with a problem mare and overcame a lot of issues with her, mainly with napping and rearing. I have competed my own horse (Jumboroo) to unaffiliated 1.15m level and evented to 90cm unaffiliated, but he does come with some quirks including some serious napping, but we still regularly hack out despite the rears. I've never hunted but definitely have to guts to do so.

Competition Details

I have competed up to unaffiliated 1.15m level in unaffiliated show jumping, I aimed to compete in BE and BSJA but due to A-Levels this was not possible and up to 90cm in eventing but all the horses I owned weren't keen on xc so I never pursued it. However, I would love the opportunity to train and overcome these issues over the next year or so as a working pupil. I have recently joined a riding club and competed to elementary level dressage, although I much prefer the thrill of jumping.
