Equine Work Experience

Team Heritage During my work on an International Showjumping Yard as a Groom, I was responsible for the everyday care of all 17 competition horses. This included: weighing and feeding haynets, feeds, turning in and out, grooming, tacking up, riding, mucking out, bathing, rugging up and the handling of youngsters. I also assisted farrier and vet visits. During the time I worked there, I travelled to two shows with the team. The first being a day show, and the second a stay away show. Whilst away, I proceeded to care for the horses at a high standard, whilst having the pressure of classes being on at the same time. In this environment I was able to stay calm and continue to complete all jobs and stay organised within the time and schedule each day.

During my work on Midgham Stud as a yard person, I was responsible for the care of both the stallion and broodmares. This included feeding, haynets, turning in and out, assisting the handling of foals, mucking out and poo picking.

Specialities

I have experience with foals, broodmares and stallions. I have worked well in a team and been able to communicate to get the job done to the best standard. I have had sole charge of an international showjumping yard. I always put the horses first, and make sure they’re turned out to the highest standard. I am quick and efficient at mucking out. I make sure to always keep a tidy yard.

Type of Ride Work

Since having my own, I have worked with green, unbacked and uneducated horses. I have a calm temperament around horses and I’m a quiet rider. I started on a riding school and since then have been self taught. Riding is something I would love to improve as I really enjoy this.

Competition Details

As an international showjumping groom in training, I would be in charge of making sure the horses got everything they needed and were happy and healthy during their stay away. I was left by myself multiple times so had to use my own initiative. I would tack up and groom the next horse ready for the rider.
