As a recent graduate from CAFRE, I have experience in all aspects of the equine industry, this includes working with race horses, broodmares, foals and young stock. My time at CAFRE not only equipped me with theory, but also the practical skills expected within the industry. Previously, I had been involved in riding and volunteering at my local riding school for 14 years where I was involved as a mentor for beginner riders, assisted and participated during events hosted by the centre, including competitions, clinics and camps. This included general yard duties such as turn out, grooming etc.
With a team, I have managed a small breeding unit on campus for a year. This involved managing 8 broodmares with foals. Duties included exercising the mares, preparing for vet visits, foaling down, foal management and sales prep. This yard also housed young stock in which I was involved in their preparation for breaking, including hand walking, lunging and loose jumping. I turn out to a high standard and also keep the yard tidy at all times. I have experience leading a team within my current job
Type of Ride Work
Coming from a riding school background has allowed me to experience a wide range of horses of all ages and at different stages of their ridden career, this includes the younger, greener types and also older schoolmasters.
I have experience in working on the flat, jumping and cross country. While I don't have experience starting horses, this is something I would be interested in getting into.
I have some experience participating in shows organised by the riding school.
