I am a keen aspiring groom who has been working with horses on a voluntary basis, and am now looking for a full or part-time opportunity to progress my career and gain more experience. I am confident around horses and have been developing essential skills through volunteering at a livery yard and with a rescue. Ideally, I would be looking for a role in the Basingstoke area while I'm learning to drive, but happy to consider a live-in position in the wider Hampshire region or further afield.
Whilst attending the british racing school, I received my level 3 in transporting horses by road on short journeys, my level 1 in introduction to the horseracing industry and my level 2 in the principles of horse care. I also have a level 3 in equine behaviour and psychology that I received from partaking in an online course. Currently, I am also working towards my BHS stage 1.
In previous jobs, my duties have included mucking out up to 20 boxes a day, grooming, leading up at the races and riding out racehorses. I have also taken charge of 21 horses for 2 weeks during holiday cover with just one other person.
I have attended the british racing school for 12 weeks, in which I then went on to work for David Simcock as yard staff for 7 months. In the past, I worked as a riding instructor to children. In the summer of 2020, I rode out for Ruth Jefferson for 3 months as a summer job between studying for my degree.
I've mainly worked in the racing industry where I have worked as both ground staff and a rider. During holiday cover, I lived onsite for 2 weeks and looked after 21 horses with just on other person at hand. This included leading and handling a foal as well as racehorses having a break from being in training. Other than this, I have also worked at a riding school where I helped children of all ages learn how to ride as an instructor.
With racing making up most of my experience, I have ridden fit racehorses in training. I have also had experience bringing on a few young/green horses.
I haven't competed in any affiliated events, but have partaken in local unaffiliated shows in dressage and showjumping.
