I am a keen aspiring groom who has been working with horses on a voluntary basis, and am now looking for a full or part-time opportunity to progress my career and gain more experience. I am confident around horses and have been developing essential skills through volunteering at a livery yard and with a rescue. Ideally, I would be looking for a role in the Basingstoke area while I'm learning to drive, but happy to consider a live-in position in the wider Hampshire region or further afield.
I have experience from having worked on two local yards. These roles included general yard duties and exercising the horses. I am very flexible as I understand that working with animals doesn't always quite go to plan! I am always punctual when working and exceptionally dedicated. My absolute adoration and love for horses means that I will always put them first and do whatever is necessary to ensure they are fully cared for. Having worked on a couple of yards I have seen that I would love to be able to continue doing so and that ensuring that horses are happy, makes me happy. I also took part in helping with Riding for the Disabled briefly.
I would consider myself confident and hard working and have have an eye for detail ensuring horses are cared for to the best possible standard. I have experience working on yards so understand what the jobs involve and I will always strive to carry out roles to the best of standards always putting the horses needs first. I am very keen on a tidy yard and will ensure that everything is swept properly and kept clean and tidy ensuring a hygienic environment for the horses.
A cob who was nappy, he would bolt in open spaces and would spook at lorries and large machinery. These were all problems I worked out with him which lead to him being as safe as houses in any open space, go hunting, attend hunter trials with a child and go clear in show jumping rounds without stopping. I evented up to 90cm and show jumped up to 1m on my previous warmblood. I have ridden an older horse recently who has a couple of ailments and have learnt how to encourage him to move correctly.
A very long time ago I used to take my New Forest Pony to Pony Club trials and local show-jumping events. While I was at school used to compete my cob up and them moved onto my warmblood, eventing up to 90cm and 1m show jumping. We competed in NSEA championships and our team came 6th in the 80cm. I have recently competed a friend of mines warmblood in hunter trials and show jumping.
