I’m 19 and looking for a working student position to further my riding skills. I have just started cantering, and I aspire to be a trainer. I am motivated to make a career in the equine industry!
Currently I am studying at Hadlow College completing my Equine Management Level 3 Extended Diploma and will come out with my BHS stage 1 and ride safe in june.
GCSE: maths - 4 English Language - 5 English Literature - 6 Science - 4-4
I have worked at a riding school, doing the general duties, including taking hacks, lead rein lessons, tacking up and untacking, the care of the horse after the day, customer service, allocating horses, managing the tack up and untacking of the horses being used, feeding, hay and water, stable maintenance. Other than working at a riding school i have not worked out in the equine industry professionally, however I am currently working on my Equine management level 3 on my second year. during this, I have learnt how to muck out, groom, hot cloth, bath, turn out and bring in etc to a very high standard. Each subject I have taken gets me ready for the equine industry for competiton, general yard work, recognising diseases in horses, managing a yard, coaching, By the end of my diploma I will have my BHS stage 1 if i continue this or get full time employment instead.
The experience I have had throughout the years has shown that I work well leading a team, due to being at college having to manage a yard every month for 1 week, and then also managing a group of lower level students. This included mucking out to a very high standard, turning out and bringing in, plaiting, trimming, bathing, poo picking, field maintenance, a full groom to very high standards, quarter marks, bandaging, etc.
Overall, I have ridden green and young horses throughout my year and a half at college. I have also ridden problem horses. video evidence and references avaliable on request.
Jumping 90cm I am very comfortable doing in the school and in open field, also very willing to learn.
During flat work I can perform basic lateral movements such as turn on the forehand, turn on the haunches, shoulder in, and leg yielding and also work no stirrups through all 3 paces comfortably.
During my second year it is compulsory that students organise the annual show which takes place at the end of each academic year, this gives the students at the end of their level 3 the opportunity to organise which classes are taking place, where they are taking place, advertisements, ring party, car parking, stalls, start and end times etc. However, other than that I have no experience on a competiton yard but very willing and eager to learn.
