Duties of Current Occupation

I am currently a full-time student of Law and History at Edinburgh University, looking to graduate this summer. I work as a professional showjumping groom when I am at home in Ireland, and will have been doing so for a year by the time I graduate uni

Equine Work Experience

I am passionate about caring for animals, and have worked with horses for over 11 years across multiple stable yards. My tasks included catching horses in the morning for feeding, mucking out in the morning and evening, assisting amateur lessons, schooling and exercising the horses, keeping the yard tidy, and cleaning tack. I also have lots of experience in show-prep, including clipping, plaiting, bandaging, loading, etc. Much of my experience is working on yards that specify in show jumping and working hunter where I often worked as an arena steward during international competitions at larger equestrian centres. I have had great success competing myself, riding different horses in a range of disciplines.

Specialities

My specialty in horses is in English riding style, particularly show jumping and working hunter, though I have skills across all disciplines. I have worked with horses professionally and in schools at different levels, most recently on a professional showjumping yard as a show groom. I worked closely with top working horses, down to handling new-born foals through to young breakers.

Type of Ride Work

I have ridden mostly school horses in my early years, which advanced into competition horses on more professional yards. I am a strong, confident rider, so often have taken on the challenge of riding greener or problem horses. My favourite discipline is show jumping, though i have partaken in cross country, dressage, working hunter, hunting and hacking. Though solely an English-style rider, I would be fascinated by the opportunity to learn to ride western!

Competition Details

I have lots of experience working on competition yards where the horses competed all over the country. The larger equestrian centres also hosted many international shows, for which I was an arena steward. I currently work as both a home and show groom depending on the weekend, travelling nationally with a team of showjumping horses. I have plenty of experience caring for horses staying away for shows, and I am familiar with long show days.
