Equine Work Experience
I worked in the Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery for 7 years where we have over 100 horses that are fit for ceremonial season for royal salutes in central London and musical drive displays at horse shows around the UK. I promoted up to a gun team driver quite early on and completed two courses becoming an Advanced Regimental Riding Instructor and a BHS stage 3 coach as well as stage 3 care and stage 2 ride and lunge. I brought on the younger horses to become up to scratch for ceremonial seasons and taught the new recruits how to ride from the very basics to then qualify to be on parade. I have ridden since I was 9 years old and brought on my own Friesian horse that was used for driving to then competing in Novice dressage which is more my specialty.
Specialities
I have managed a team of 8 with everyday yard duties and mentoring/teaching new beginners the basic groom skills. I have taught individually and groups up to 8 from beginners to more experienced in basic schooling/dressage, show jumping and indoor XC. I have worked with young, green horses breaking them in and getting them up to scratch for ceremonial season. Due to the fast paced environment within the British Army working with horses, I carry out my duties to the highest standard and quickly.
Type of Ride Work
I have ridden young, green horses and also problem horses to try to resolve issues they have and achieving a goal. I would say my specialty is more flatwork and dressage although I do jump and have competed in 90cm show jumping classes and have also hunted as well as some XC schooling. I have broken in young horses from just coming out of a field and also teaching them everything from the ground (i.e. ground handling, clipping, lunging and stable etiquette).
Competition Details
I have competed in many small competitions within my area in dressage, show jumping and one day eventing for mostly fun. In my regiment I organised a few dressage comps after being promoted.
