Training clients to a high standard, by methods adapted to each individual client. Training and exercising of horses. Maintaining high standards of presentation of the yard and horses. Preparing horses for races & competitions.
Most recently I have been managing a small livery yard which has sadly closed due to a change in circumstances. Prior to this I worked as a hunt/point-to-point groom which included riding and training, preparing for hunts and races, and escorting my boss to the track where I would help her during the day. I have also previously worked as a riding instructor, both freelance and employed: always endeavouring to combine the biomechanical research I undertook as part of my Equine Studies BSc (completed with 2:1 and Hons) with my own understanding of horses, how they reflect the rider's habits, and research I continue to carry out. I love training both people and horses, particularly including retraining ex racehorses. I am keen for my next role to include riding and teaching, as well as diverse new challenges. I bring everything I have to my work, it is more than just a job. I am looking for a supportive environment where I can teach while enabling myself to learn.
I am keen, independent, hard working and ambitious. I have my BHS stage 2 and PTT; my safeguarding and first aid at work. I am DBS checked. I have stopped formally taking exams due to expense, but am riding and working at stage 3 standard. Most recently, I have been yard manager on a small yard with exceptional standards, always endeavouring to exceed owner expectations. I love training all horses, particularly retraining racehorses and would be keen for this to be included in my next role.
I enjoy a challenge; I enjoy jumping; I enjoy training. I adjust my riding to the establishment and horse so that I am cohering with the horse owner's desires while achieving the goal. I pride myself on enabling the horse to work forwards in self carriage without "fiddling" them into position, instead using biomechanics and technique.
I have competed in cross country, show jumping and up to novice level dressage. These competitions are often on green horses or those who need to further their education. I have also hunted regularly and go on fun rides, often also on green horses.
Most recently I have been preparing horses for point to point races, hunts and clinics - I consider the horses that leave the livery yard to be representing the yard, so believe it is important for them to impress.
