Equine Work Experience
Whilst my professional work has been in adventure sports coaching, I have owned, started, trained and ridden horses for over 20 years as a hobby. I have also worked in sole charge of caring for Cleaveland Bays stallions at stud, on a showjumping yard and at Dolbadarn trekking and film company in Llanberis.
When I left school I spent 9 months as a working pupil at the Harrogate Equestrian Centre before my family moved to North Wales.
My skill set with horses is wide and I have a solid grounding in most disciplines and all aspects of horse care and training.
Specialities
Understanding learning theory and practice for both horses and humans.
Much of the work I have done with horses has been in starting, re-starting and rehabilitation, leading me to become skilful with troubled horses and in groundwork, on-line work and liberty work.
I am currently doing a part-time PhD at Hartpury University in Equestrian Sports Coaching and would like a job that supports my research and gives me lots of practical experience in a wider arena.
Type of Ride Work
Starting and rehabilitating, showjumping, flatwork, drag-hunting, dressage, some western including cow-work and cowboy dressage, working equitation, trek, classical dressage.
I have found that a good mixture of activities is great for the overall development of horses as happy, well functioning, healthy athletes.
I have ridden both my own and other people's horses for them in unaffiliated competitions up to 115cm showjumping, medium dressage and 90cm cross country.
