Hi, My name is Iris I am 18 years old and I am about to finish my college course in Level 3 Equine Management. I am entering a gap year after college to gather experience within the industry. I would love to work abroad or within the UK.

Duties of Current Occupation

Riding School Worker - Prepping horses for lessons and leading lead rein lessons. Groom for a racehorse rehab yard - caring for the ex-racers including grooming, retraining, handling and general care. Pet Sitter - Caring for customers animals.

Equine Work Experience

I have been working with horses for 7 years. I have loaned multiple different horses of all different breeds, ages and heights. I started of working in a riding school for 2 years where I took on many different roles such as leading lead rein lessons, grooming and tacking up for lessons, turning in and out and managing customers. I have also worked on a race horse rehabilitation yard where I worked closely with ex race horses that were challenging to manage. My roles and responsibilities consisted of grooming the horses, mucking out, filling haynets, handling horses and participating in retraining exercises. For the past two years I have attended equine college and I have learned an array of different skills and practices involved in the industry. We do regular yard work, learn how to turnout for a show, tack and equipment for different disciplines, training and working horses on the ground and ridden, equine nutrition and much more. I also did work experience at an equine hospital.

Specialities

Worked with ex-race horses with special ailments and medical requirements.

Type of Ride Work

I have ridden horses on the flat and over fences up to 70cm and I am confident out hacking.

I have not competed or worked on competition yards.
