I am a keen aspiring groom who has been working with horses on a voluntary basis, and am now looking for a full or part-time opportunity to progress my career and gain more experience. I am confident around horses and have been developing essential skills through volunteering at a livery yard and with a rescue. Ideally, I would be looking for a role in the Basingstoke area while I'm learning to drive, but happy to consider a live-in position in the wider Hampshire region or further afield.
In this current academic year (2019/2020) I have completed my BHS Stage 1 and my ride safe award. In this coming year I am looking to do my BHS Stage 2.
BHS Stage 1
I am currently going into my second year of Equine Sports Science at Nottingham Trent University.
I have owned my own horse for six years but have riding for 11 years. From a young age I helped at my local riding stables where I would prepare horses for lessons, grooming, feeding and general yard duties. Since being at university, I have ridden a large variety of different horses in a range of disciplines (for which I can provide video evidence). Within my course I have also been taught on the different training methods within the industry such as lunging, long reining and other training techniques such as clicker and target training (which has been successful).
Within my studies at Nottingham Trent University I have been trained up to a high standard within the yard.
With my own horse I have competed in unaffiliated and pony club events working up of BS level. I am completing at 90cm currently but working on moving up to 1/1.05m as we are training comfortably at 1.10m. I am able to provide efficient flat work to horses I have worked with and apply different types of training which is beneficial to the individual. Previously I have done cross country and I believe that I would be confident if I was to return to this area.
I am currently competing at 90cm, looking on working to 1/1.05m as we are comfortably training at 1.10m. Before the pandemic began, I had entered a series of intermediate dressage competitions but due to the circumstances these were unable to go ahead.
