Equine Work Experience

I started riding when I was 5, worked/volunteered at a riding school where I stayed at until I was 15, I had my own horse for 4 of those years.

I worked at camp Skymeadow in Pennsylvania, this was a girls scout summer camp where they had a herd of 16 horses, these horses varied massively in size, age and personality but it was a pleasure learning from them all throughout summer, as I was barn director in my second year of Skymeadow I had 3 members of staff who I’d set goals with and was in charge of the jobs which were done daily, we all got to know each other very well and had great working relationships. I’m also very happy to be on my own getting things done, I quite enjoy my own company.

I currently work at Hartpury university and have learnt so much in the last 18 months from there, working in a learning environment has given me a new perspective and opened my mind to the amount and the diversity of equine jobs, I’m eager to learn and develop with the job.

Specialities

I have an attention to detail, and basic knowledge of all yard duties. I am willing to learn, with a positive day to day attitude. Always up for a challenge and love learning new skills. I enjoy being part of a team and working along side others to be successful however I do also enjoy working individually. Always bring my whole self to work and ready to put my self into something which I can really work hard on and develop in a career with horses.

Type of Ride Work

I was riding regularly when I worked at the riding stables up until I was 15, I was riding green horses, however this would’ve been about 7 years ago. I rode western when in America summer of 22 and 23. This was great for confidence then I started working at Hartpury and light hacking is about all I’m doing currently.

Competition Details

Haven’t worked in competitive riding, not against doing it, have been to plenty of shows with friends and been their non official groom, whilst working at Hartpury I’ve worked 2 summers of their competitions which span from June to September, I found this side of the job really interesting and enjoyable
