Equine Work Experience
I've owned my own horses since I was 12 years old and always kept them at home so have been almost solely responsible for their care. In November 2018 after completing GCSEs I started a level 2 horse care apprenticeship at a local dressage yard and riding school, Contessa Riding Centre. Whilst at Contessa I have been working with, caring for and riding a large range of horses and ponies ranging from challenging riding school ponies right up to Grand Prix lusitano stallions. At Contessa i've worked as part of a team but can work equally as well alone. I've been lucky enough to receive some brilliant training with great trainers such as; Arthur Kottas, John Bowen, John Adams and Tina Layton, both on my own horses and the resident, advanced dressage horses. Whilst working at Contessa, I have been unable to consistently compete and have concentrated more on the training.
Specialities
I enjoy riding and working with the more challenging horses and ponies. I take pride in the care that I give each individual horse that I work with and believe that as we expect them as athletes to work their hardest for us, we should do everything in our power to keep them happy, healthy and comfortable to get the best results. Although I have recently thoroughly enjoyed experiencing the dressage world it has certainly made me realise that my heart lies with Showjumping!
Type of Ride Work
On my own horses I have done a wide range of riding including showjumping upto 1.10, cross country schooling, hunter trials, beach rides and dressage competitions. I was a member of my local pony club for a few years with my first pony. Working at Contessa I have been responsible for exercising horses from novice level through to Adv medium. I have also assisted in the rebacking and training of some horses and ponies in the riding school.
Competition Details
I have competed successfully in unaffiliated showjumping up to 1.10 on my 14.1h pony, picking up many sunshine tour qualifiers from 2016-2018 at venues such as Brook farm, Bury farm and Keysoe. From 2015-2018 I won the 90cm class at a local, well regarded show and for this was awarded the Hill Challenge Cup. I have also successfully competed in 3ft3 Hunter trials and Novice level unaffiliated dressage, with scores of 70% and above.
