Duties of Current Occupation

Work with primary and secondary schools to increase the number of children participating in sports and physical activity. Coordinate and develop extra curricular opportunities’ for physical activity and sport. Deliver holiday camps and programmes.

Equine Work Experience

Whilst at University, I did a 6 month placement at a racing yard in Scotland which then turned into a full time post throughout the summer. My daily duties included; feeding, mucking out, grooming, taking up, riding horses on the gallop, taking horses on/off and controlling the walker, turn out /take in of horses, assisting vet/physio /farrier with appointments, dealing with foals, broodmares and yearlings, assisting with taking horses to races and prep for races before hand. During my time in school, I started riding at the age of 5 and was based Broomhill riding school on the outskirts of Inverness until the age of 17 when I left for university. From the age of 13 to 17, I worked every weekend at the yard helping with general yard duties; catching, grooming and tacking up horses for lessons, feeding, mucking out stables, poo picking and ragworting fields and assisting the instructors with large group hacks. I also assisted the RDA with the weekly lessons by leading beginners.

Specialities

Although I do not have experience leading in a equestrian environment, I have a vast amount of experience in leading in a sporting environment. I am currently working as an Active Schools Coordinator where I am required to organise and run extra-curricular sports for 10 primary schools and 1 secondary school. Furthermore, during the school holidays I have to organise and oversee holidays camps and activities - This has included some own-a-pony days at one of the local riding schools.

Type of Ride Work

Through my time working at the racing yard, I was often put on the freshly broken, low mileage/green horses who the yard had bred and broken themselves. I had my own thoroughbred x ISH for 7 years who I competed in dressage, show jumping, cross country and working hunter. As well as owning an ex-racer from 2020 to 2024. Whilst working at the racing yard, I was required to ride every day which included some very high maintenance and highly strung thoroughbreds as well as youngsters.

Competition Details

I have competed at a national level in show jumping and a regional level in dressage, working hunter and cross country.
