Duties of Current Occupation

Mucking out, turning out and catching in, making up feeds, feeding, health checking, grooming, plaiting, worming, bathing, hoof picking, tend to wounds, de-manure the fields, ordering feed/bedding

Equine Work Experience

I have been working in stables at an animal sanctuary for over 4 years. My duties here include making up the feed and feeding in the morning, lunch and evening, grooming horses, turning out and catching in the horses, mucking out to a high standard, sweeping the yard, health checking, de-manure the fields, working well on my own and as part of a team, throwing back the muck heap, changing the horse’s diet/the amount of feed, picking out hooves, filling up water and giving hay, ordering feed/bedding.

I have volunteered at a riding school to lead the horses in a schooling lesson. I have also taken lessons myself and I can ride in walk, trot and canter and I have also done pole and flat work, while also tacking up my own horse to ride.

I have also completed a university course in Equine Training and Management where I learnt to tack up and untack horses and learnt how to correctly lunge a horse. I have lunged horses with and without gadgets as well as long reining.

Specialities

I have experience working with young and healthy horses as well as old and or abused horses. I believe this has helped me become adaptable to the horses needs while keeping my working environment clean and tidy. I have experience turning out and catching in horses. Although I am not the quickest at mucking out, I make sure it is complete to a high standard while also keeping the yard clean. I have experience tending to any wounds seen as well as worming horses at the correct time of year.

Type of Ride Work

I have experience riding horses in walk, trot and canter and I have done pole and flat work. I have also got experience doing hacks. I have some experience working with young horses while at university.

Competition Details

I have not worked in the competition area and do not have any experience grooming or working on a competition yard, however, it is something I am interested in having experience in and would love the opportunity.
