BSC (Hons) Equine Training and Management RDA Coach in Training BHS Ride Safe Safeguarding Emmett Technique Horse Practitioner GALOP 1-4 (French BHS equivalent) Equine 1st aid
Duties of Current Occupation
For the last 12 months I've looked after a 6 year old child with severe cerebral palsy, supporting autistic children and those with behavioral problems.
Equine Work Experience
As mentioned above I volunteered at a sanctuary in France rehabilitating and retraining horses for adoption. In the UK I have volunteered for the RDA starting as a lead rein helper and progressing to becoming an RDA coach. Sadly covid has stopped me completing the final exam, which I shall take when the RDA exam restarts in 2022. I've worked part time at cornilo riding for more than 3 years as a head girl. I volunteer every year as a dressage steward at Chilham Castle. At tontine farm stables club where my horse lives I am currently the treasurer and a committee member involved in running the yard. As part of my degree I had numerous opportunities to explore the equine industry. I undertook work experience at Ann Berry's yard.
Specialities
Whilst volunteering at a horse sanctuary in France I worked with a variety of horses such as rehabilitating neglected and abused horses. Many of the mares were in foal when they arrived and my own horse Elite was born on the sanctuary (who is now 6). Whilst at cornilo riding school I supervised a group of Saturday helpers. At Hadlow college I had to achieve 10 mins mucking out and learn to love a square bed and a broom. I will need practice plaiting and clipping.
Type of Ride Work
I've been privileged enough to ride a variety of horses from green, young horses to school masters. I am experienced in ground work, flat work mainly dressage and have just started learning jumping. I was able to back my own horse in France and am continuing her training in the UK. I had further experience during my degree with backing young horses at Hadlow College and backed and retrained an ex racehorse.
Competition Details
Approximately five years ago I competed at prelim level dressage both at Blue Barn and Willow Farm. I came 1st and was invited to do the sunshine tour. Sadly due to study commitments I was unable to take part. As a dressage steward at Chilham Castle I am aware of the complexity in organising equine events. I am involved in the organisation of the annual fun day at tontine farm stables club.
