Qualifications
I have completed my first year of Level 3 Animal Management at Myerscough College in Lancashire which I achieved with pass in theory, distinction in practical, merit in biology and pass in health and safety. I worked with variety of different types of animals within the course. I have also almost completed my first year level 3 of Equine Studies at Myerscough College which will finish on 23/06/22, I joined the course to deepen my knowledge and learn more about the industry.
Duties of Current Occupation
At college I muck out, clean drinkers and mangers, muck out, groom, exercise the horses, plait, fill hay nets.
Equine Work Experience
I have been in the equine industry for over eight years. I have volunteered at a riding school, as well as having lessons, which included the roles of filling hay nets, tacking horses up for lessons, leading clients in lessons, grooming the horses, leading and turning horses out. I have done my work experience for college at a livery yard that is also a riding school. The roles included were similar but I challenged myself to meet industry speed with the mucking out and filling hay net duties. I worked alongside stallions and broodmares during my work experience and fulfilled 90+ hours over the two weeks when the target set by college was 80 hours. I stayed and worked at a polo yard. This included general yard maintenance; mucking out, feeding, turn out. As well as the matches, preparing the horses, bandaging, tacking up, switching horses, cooling horses off.
Specialities
I have high standards when working on a yard and always sensible around the horses. I follow yard rules and always do when asked, I am a determined person. I can work as a team or can work as an individual, often delegating jobs in a team. I muck out and fill nets to an industry speed. I keep the yard tidy by high sweeping standards and always put equipment away safely after using it. I always ensure the safety of the horses welfare and others around me. I can plait and groom to a standard.
Type of Ride Work
I have ridden a wide range of different types of horses. I've ridden horses that are stubborn, forward horses that don't require a lot of leg, horses that spook, horses that had bucked and bolt. I have helped a family friend train and exercise her five year old cob. I was teaching her to flex her neck, give an slight inside bend, to slow down in tot and to not rush. I have ridden flat work, hacking, jumps, pole work and training in dressage. Riding sets on an polo yard; ride one and lead
Competition Details
At the riding school I volunteered at, we organised and competed against others in fun shows which included showing and in-hand. We had to pick a school horse and get it prepared for the show. At Myerscough College for one of our ride assessments, we had to compete against the class at a primarily dressage test which was organised by the second year of level 3 students.
